      You can treat a minor burn, like a hot, bacon-grease burn, without medical attention by treating it with care:

      Put it under water, not on ice.

      • As soon as you can, put your burn under cold running water for at least ten minutes or apply a cold compress. Do not use ice as freezing could actually harm skin tissue further.

      Dress it and forget it.

      • Cover the burn loosely with gauze and wait for it to heal. Don’t break blisters or apply ointment. Take an over-the-counter pain reducer as needed.
