    • TWISTS & SPRAINS? NO RICE, NO DICE.

If you think you’ve twisted or sprained something, make sure you can move it, that it doesn’t “pop” when you do, and that there’s no numbness, excessive swelling or fever. If you have any of the previously stated symptoms, you’ll need to see a doctor. If swelling and pain are your main concern, get ready to RICE it:

      REST

Stay off of that sprained or twisted joint. Use a sling for arms or crutches for ankles, knees and feet. You can also tape fingers or toes together for extra relief.

      ICE

Grab a cold pack and kick back for 15 minutes, up to 8 times a day.

      COMPRESS

Wrap the affected area with a compression bandage to help keep swelling in check.

      ELEVATE

Keep the area above the heart to help control swelling. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever to help reduce any discomfort and keep RICE-ing for at least 48 hours. If it doesn’t get better in a few days, go see your doctor.
